My Creative Journey
Writing Journey
I like to say that I've been a writer my whole life, but that's not entirely true. I started writing short stories at five years old, under the guidance (more like supervision) of my older sister. Playing monkey-see, monkey-do is a natural part of being the younger sibling. And so I wrote because she wrote - that was the only thing that mattered... until I turned thirteen. It was at that age that I realized the writing had shifted from an "I want to be you" perspective to a "This is who I am" perspective. Since then, I have always written in some capacity, whether it be a short story, a novel, blogging, journaling, video game scripts, or YouTube scripts.
Video Editing Journey
Video Editing came to me much later in life than writing, partially due to a lack of access to the tools needed. In my younger years, I recall the fun I had cutting together fan-made music videos by ripping DVDs onto my computer and using the default "Windows Movie Maker" software. They weren't all that good, but I was proud of my work at the time and I have left them on YouTube as a reminder of how far I've come. Fast forward about 14 years and I found it necessary to try again when my sister and I began a writing-focused YouTube Channel. She will be the first to tell you she isn't tech-savvy, so the editing fell to me. At first, I dabbled in the free version of Animaker. I became pretty good at it too, but it was limiting and didn't run well on my PC. Then I found Davinci Resolve, a robust editing software that I could get for free. I started learning in earnest. That was in 2020. It was only a matter of months before I realized I had a knack for video editing, and I was growing to love it. In 2023, I began offering my video editing services to others with a focus on small YouTube channels.
Graphic Design Journey
Graphic Design is an area I never thought I would get into or enjoy. It began out of necessity. When I decided to get into content creation, I knew I needed to eventually figure out thumbnail design. If I wanted to be successful on YouTube, this was a key area. I was stubborn for the first few years of content creation, but when I started my independent channel, I knew I needed to give up the fight and "get good". So I began experimenting with GIMP (a very similar software to Photoshop), and after learning a lot of skills and techniques, I decided to invest in Photoshop to make my process more efficient. Since switching to Photoshop in 2024 and having access to more tools, I have come to truly enjoy the process.
Skills & Experience
Video Editor
October 2020 - Present
I've honed my skills in creating high-quality video content for a diverse range of clients in different niches, including but not limited to gaming, food reviews, education, and movie/TV analysis. I have worked on video essays, highlights, tutorials/guides, reviews, and video game trailers.
Content Creator
October 2020 - Present
I have been a content creator since the inception of the co-op writing-focused YouTube Channel with my sister. After gathering experience and knowledge for several years, I created my own YouTube Channel in early 2023, focused on gaming content. I manage the channel singularly, taking on the role of writer, director, producer, marketer, video editor, and thumbnail designer.
Narrative Designer
February 2019 - Present
I first began dabbling in narrative design for video games with an indie studio, Stridestar Studios. I did volunteer work with them for several years before partnering with another indie studio, Redeye Factory, for the development of a brand new IP. I have been working in concert with them since 2021, as both Narrative Designer and Director, towards the completion of a new game project.
Instructor
February 2017 - February 2020
Partnering with my sister, I co-created and co-instructed a Creative Writing Workshop for teens at a local library. We ran the workshop for 3 consecutive years before it was cut off by COVID. We implemented an array of teaching techniques, including lectures, gamification, interactive lessons, and workshopping.
Project Manager
September 2020 - November 2023
While employed at a small tech company in the aerospace industry, I was promoted following my first year to a supervisory role that required a transition into Project Management. During my time in that role I managed multiple projects and customers, both internal and external, and developed skills in project management, time management, communication, leadership, training, and customer service.
